Who We Are
For the Nations DC (FTNDC) is a nonprofit ministry that offers help and hope to refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants through English programs and other practical assistance.
ADULT ENGLISH CLASSES (ESOL)
Learning English is a big need for refugees and immigrants arriving in the US, especially in northern Virginia. Without English skills, our new neighbors struggle to get jobs, support their family, and navigate a new culture.
Our adult English classes provide quality, low-cost English language instruction for people who face significant barriers to language learning. We provide free childcare during classes, which enables moms with young children to learn English and have social interaction. In childcare, their kids participate in fun, developmentally appropriate activities that help them prepare for school.
We also provide special literacy-level classes to make learning accessible to those who have had little or no opportunity for formal education. In our classes, some students learn how to read and write for the first time in their lives!
KIDS CLUB
Children of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers can increase their chances of success by improving their reading skills. We hold reading clubs for kids one night per week at a local apartment complex with reading and other activities.
NAVIGATING A NEW CULTURE
Beyond the classroom, students need help with navigating life in a new culture. We equip them with new skills—such as job interview tips—and connect them with community resources that can help meet their practical needs.
Our Mission
To offer hope and help to immigrant families through quality English instruction while aiding students in cultural navigation and community resource connections. We proclaim the gospel as the ultimate hope of healing for the brokenness we all experience.
